I am the niece of tamboo and boom boom players, Cyril and Tony. But you mentioned that you are the grand daughter of accordion play Joseph better known as Coolee. You are one my people, since Coolee is my aunts husband.

I believe you about your grandpa teaching you to play the steel drum because I used to enjoy listening to him play the steel drum after he had completely set the drum. But I am wondering who is your parent of Coolee’s children, because I had already left home when he began to have children with my aunt–his wife.

I have been living in Toronto since 1974, but I was in Dominica for six weeks in July to August 2008. The Jing Ping Band was practicing for the Creole festivals that was coming up, but I left Dominica before that.

Anyway it is good to know that we are bonding as a family and I hope that we will meet together to enjoy that beautiful talent of the men in our family. May God bless them, and our Country, Dominica.

Best Jing Ping Band on the island. They have represented Dominica abroad with class and they are committed to prolonging our cultural tradition. The Accordion player is my Grandpa and the Boomboom and Tanbou my Grand-Uncles. My first Steel Pan was built by my grandpa who taught me how to play Young Bulls “Chew my pocket Teresa.” I’m a bit rusty on the pans now because I’ve been living in the UK for toooooo long but I intend on catching up.

The people in the picture above are my people in Dominica. The man who plays the drum or the tamboo, as I know it, and the man who plays the boom, boom as I also know it, are both my uncles. The are my mother’s brothers. They are Cyril and Tony respectively. The man who plays the accordian is the husband of my aunt, who is also my mother’s sister. His name is Joseph. The man who plays the shack, shack, again as I know it is a friend of the family. His name is Felix.
My mother’s name is Joanna and my aunt’s name is Veronica.

By now you must know that I am from the village of Giraudel in Dominica. But I now live in Toronto, Canada. My family there is extremely large, a mixture of Xavier and Harve, along with their husbands, wives, and their children.

Giraudel is popular on the Internet because of Morne Anglais and its annual Flower Show. Thank you to Chris for making my village special

Perhaps it is because I have been away from those beautiful sceneries for so many years. For I have lived in the heart of the City of Toronto for the past 36 years. Try to imagine the view of tall buildings, large shopping malls, and the streets piled with cars, huge buses, and gigantic tructs. The few trees that stand around maintain green leaves from May to late July. But even so, I truly believe that Dominica does have a beauty of majesty

It is no wonder that people who have lived in the noise of the streets, loaded with sidewalks of large strutures of housing and commercial businesses all of their lives, would decide to live it behind and to settle in the islands, such as Dominica, where there is simply peace and tranquility.

Dominican people should really stop and look at the rich beauty that we possess in nature, and to give thanks and gratitude to God for this unique and exquisite blessing.

Every picture of Dominica reveals the glory of God’s Love and His work of creation. I is hard not to believe that God has a deeper plan to reveal His glory to the fullest, on this Nature Island of our us.

Dominica is indeed, an island of Beauty and Splendour. Her precious gift from God.
